Three days after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, The Bates Student of Dec. 10, 1941, editorializes on the U.S. entry into the war. Please note: While the text is a call for humanity in the face of war (“the most hateful thing we face in the next few years is the hatred we will cultivate within ourselves”), it does include racial phrases. Like any historical document, it must be read in the context of its time.
