Admission Counselor | he/him
Ben was raised in the small town of Readfield, Maine. A profound shift in his adolescence was when he transferred as a sophomore to a small high school where twenty-five percent of the student population was international. There he formed friendships that opened him to many cultures and experiences from around the world. Additionally, small class sizes allowed Ben to make strong connections with his professors, especially in the history department. Ben is enthusiastic about Bates because it exemplifies these same attributes, which made him fall in love with learning.
A passion for history and a desire to better understand the wider world led Ben to the University of Maine at Farmington, where he majored in History and minored in International and Global Studies. In college, he was President of the Campus Residence Council, a teaching assistant, an archival intern, and tutored at an elementary school. Investing himself back in the communities that have meant so much to him led to formative learning experiences and friendships that continue to impact his life.
In his free time, there are few places he would rather be than on the water with a fly rod enjoying the quiet moments in nature with friends and family. Indoor rock climbing, disk golf and skiing are some of the other activities that bring him joy. Ben has continued to seek out opportunities to build community through his volunteer nonprofit work on the boards of the Readfield Union Meeting House and Neighbors Driving Neighbors.
Ben is looking forward to talking with you about your educational journey. Please don’t hesitate to reach out!
