Homeschooled Applicants
Aligned with our historical mission of recruiting applicants of various backgrounds, Bates welcomes students attending homeschool to apply for admission. In order to properly understand your academic history and preparation for the Bates classroom, the Office of Admission asks that the following material supplement your application:
Documentation
Bates requires that all applicants attending homeschool submit an academic portfolio which includes the following:
- A complete list of the courses taken, including title and instructor
- A description of each course including required reading and texts
- Evidence of laboratory experience in science courses
This portfolio can be emailed to admission@bates.edu. If you have additional questions, please contact your regional admission representative.
Recommendations
Homeschooled applicants are required to submit at least two letters of recommendation. One letter of recommendation must be written by the applicant’s parent/guardian, primary instructor, or head of their home school network. One additional letter of recommendation must be written and submitted by non-relatives who can speak to the applicant’s academic and personal strengths. Sample recommenders include coaches, employers, mentors, or course instructors.
