Associate Dean of Admission & Director of Access

There’s a small, beautiful island in the Caribbean named Saint Croix. Tyra was born and raised in St. Croix before moving to New York City with her family. While New York City was a huge change of pace, Tyra was able to jump right in and has been moving full speed ahead in everything she does.

As the first in her family to graduate high school and attend college, the college process looked slightly different for her. With the help of her college counselor, she attended Gettysburg College, where she double majored in Business and Latin American, Caribbean, and Latino Studies. While at Gettysburg College, Tyra realized how much of an impact she could make working with students in Admission. It started with tours, then being on panels and serving as an ambassador, to finally being a Senior Intern. After graduating, Tyra served as an admission officer back in New York City at Manhattan College, before returning to the Gettysburg College Admission Office and growing in that office for 6 years.

Tyra is very proud and excited to join the Bates community! She is dedicated to not just a liberal arts education but also to recruiting and retaining inclusive excellence in every space she’s in. Outside of work, Tyra loves watching movies (any genre, and yes, she will cry if it’s sad), eating every type of food she can find, reading good books, listening to Soca music, and hanging out with her cat, Whiskey.
