Having grown up half an hour from New York City in Pine Brook, New Jersey, Darryl dreamed of singing and dancing under the bright lights of Broadway. His passion for the stage led him to Wesleyan University in Connecticut, where he majored in theater and English. Darryl worked in the Office of Admission at Brown University for eight years before earning his Ed.M. in higher education administration at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. While a graduate student, he served as an outside reader for the undergraduate admission office at Tufts University. Darryl was the Director of Admission at Kenyon College in Ohio for eight years before returning to New England to join the Bates Office of Admission.

Darryl and his husband are both cyclists, hikers, and kayakers, so Maine has become their personal playground. When they are not on an outdoor adventure, they relax at home with their two dogs and two cats.  Darryl spends his down time either reading (a few favorites include This Is How It Always Is, A Prayer for Owen Meaney, The Art of Fielding, The Song of Achilles, and My Name is Memory), watching movies (too many favorites to list), or reconnecting with friends over a delicious meal (preferably Thai, his partner’s chicken parm, or home-cooked Filipino food). Although he still dreams about performing on stage, Darryl has discovered that he can make a greater impact on the lives of students and their families through his work in admissions more so than any role on Broadway.
