The College Key is once again hosting its annual Distinguished Alumni in Residence (DAIR) on campus. DAIR brings together students and alumni to hear and learn about the impactful journeys and careers our remarkable alumni embark upon.

Join us for the keynote from Executive Editor at Random House Marnie Cochran ’90, P’22, P’24, and then stick around afterward for some light refreshments to continue the conversation. Alumni who attend will be given a meal ticket for a complimentary lunch, on us!

This event will be livestreamed here on this page and will also be published afterward. All registrants will receive an email leading up to the event with instructions and a reminder for where to access the livestream.

Marnie (Patterson) Cochran ’90, P’22, P’24 has been in non-fiction trade book publishing for more than thirty-four years. After majoring in English and graduating from Bates in 1990, she attended the University of Denver’s summer publishing program. Then she landed her first job as an editorial assistant at Houghton Mifflin Company in Boston. In 1999, she moved to the Perseus Books Group, which was then in Cambridge, MA; in 2006, she moved to work remotely for the Random House Books Group, becoming an executive editor for the Ballantine Books imprint. In 2019, she moved within the company (now Penguin Random House), becoming the Vice President and Editorial Director for the Rodale Books imprint. In addition to managing a small team of acquiring editors, Marnie acquires and edits narrative and prescriptive books across a wide range of commercial topics, including parenting, education, special needs, pregnancy and childbirth, health, diet, healthy cooking, self-help, and psychology. Marnie and her husband, Monny, have been married for 25 years and are proud that their children, Tom and Kay, are both Bates graduates (2022 and 2024 respectively).
