These challenging times are calling for all of us to show up big in different ways. Additional support and opportunities to create (virtual) social connection can be an important step in boosting well-being, enabling us to meet the challenges before us.

In this interactive Zoom session, which kicks off our Bates Alumni Experts initiative, Molly Keehn ’00, Ed.D and Karl Henricksen will share information about CoJourn, a peer support and goal-setting program that helps you ‘stay the path’ and follow through on making positive changes in life while building a connection with another person.

+Molly Keehn ’00, Ed.D

Molly currently teaches courses at the undergraduate and graduate level and facilitates diversity, equity and inclusion trainings in the academic, non-profit, and corporate sectors. She is also a writing coach, Wine Tasting Associate, accordion player, triathlete, and eternal optimist. Molly lives in Western Mass., with her pug puppy, Wilbur Noodles, and her cat, Xanadu.

+Karl Henricksen

Karl has been a full-time professional musician, web designer, and videographer and, more recently, an audio engineer. He performs as the lead singer and guitarist of the electric soul-pop duo “Banjoshi.” Karl is an aspiring inventor and rides a hell of a skateboard, plays soccer, surfs and bikes. He lives in Charleston, SC, with his girlfriend, Clarissa, and his three cats, Ravioli, La Lasagna, and Yogna.

Specifically, participants will learn more about research-backed strategies they can draw from for extra support at this time, such as setting up accountability structures, practicing self-compassion and sustaining a celebratory focus. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn how to do CoJourn, a 12-week program designed to put these strategies into action.

Some examples of ways that people have used CoJourn in the past include:

  • Maintaining balance in one’s life
  • Prioritizing activism/social justice
  • Making healthy choices
  • Building better relationships
  • Becoming more proactive
  • Prioritizing creativity
  • Setting up an environment to support success
  • Prioritizing play!

We will offer partner-matching for alumni who are interested in pairing with another alum to participate in  CoJourn.

** At this session, participants will also have the chance to learn about a new initiative, a 12-week CoJourn for Racial Justice. Along with the existing framework for sustained peer support and accountability, the initiative will include specific resources for self-education, community care, and action ideas for racial justice. Interested participants can contribute to a pay-what-you-can donation, which will be sent to emergency bail funds and other efforts working for racial justice.
