Juniors – Capstone Experience Planning Meeting
Junior Biology Majors: The deadline is approaching for planning your senior capstone experience!
We will have an informational meeting on
11am – 12, Tuesday 15 January
Room 204 Carnegie
1) We will summarize the capstone process and answer questions.
2) Each faculty member will give a brief summary of research projects in their labs.
Capstone planning forms (to be submitted to the department) are available on the Biology department website. For the Class of 2014, the deadline to submit your Capstone Experience Form and the supporting paragraphs is 2 PM, Friday, Feb 1st, 2013. Hand in all paperwork in to Sylvia Deschaine at the Carnegie Reception Desk. Students will be notified by Friday, March 1st, 2013, about their options.
As a reminder of the basics: Capstone may be fulfilled by several combinations of two courses. There is no particular course that is required, because of the various options. These options include:
A year-long thesis (Biology 457 and Biology 458)
A Seminar and Research course plus a one-semester thesis
Two Seminar and Research courses (this is uncommon)
Biology 460 combined with EITHER a one-semester thesis OR a Seminar and Research course.
Next year’s Seminar and Research courses include:
Fall 2013, Bio 474, Marine Ecology (Will Ambrose)
Winter 2014, Bio 472, Physiology (Ryan Bavis)
