Winter 2020 Start-of-Semester Updates
Campus Life is excited to start another jam-packed semester in partnership with you! We have a few updates we’d like to share at this juncture:
- Club Orientations
There are two upcoming club orientations (including one TOMORROW, Monday, 1/13!) that, while mandatory for new clubs, established clubs will also find useful. Note that they are functionally identical to the orientations provided in the fall, though with minor updates. You may read more about the orientations and RSVP for them here. - Clubs & Orgs Fair
The winter 2020 Clubs & Orgs Fair is happening this Wednesday, January 15 from 7 to 9pm in Chase Hall. If you missed yesterday’s registration deadline but still would like to table at the fair, please email Nick Dressler (ndressle@bates.edu) ASAP. - Let’s Talk Inclusivity!
Join Campus Life staff and student Training & Leadership Development Assistants to discuss ways to make club/org and Campus Life employment experiences more inclusive. What systems, structures and policies need updating? What can you do in your areas of influence to encourage an inclusive space? Everyone is welcome! Dates for this semester may be found here.
- Credit Cards
There is now a Visa and a Walmart credit card available for you to check out from Campus Life! This option allows your club account to be debited directly, rather than having to take out a cash advance and/or get reimbursed. If you’re interested in doing so, please swing by Chase Hall 108 during business hours. Note that this takes the place of the College Store credit cards; Campus Life should be your primary destination when seeking to make purchases using your club funds.
- BJs Member Card
There is also now a BJs member card that you may check out from Campus Life, which can be used in conjunction with our Visa card.
- Open Hours
Due to traffic patterns, and in an effort to best be available to you when you need us, we’re changing our open hours to 9:00am to 6:00pm, Monday through Friday. Kim, Nick, and Jen plan on hosting a wide variety of office hours at different times and locations throughout the semester, and we’ll be communicating those frequently as they come up. - A New Staff Member
We are thrilled to share that Marisa Melnick joined the Campus Life team mid-fall semester as our new Coordinator of Outdoor Education and Programs. She also handles administrative tasks for Campus Life, so even if you’re not involved with outdoor education, she’s someone you’ll be hearing from and want to know! If you have time, don’t hesitate to swing by Chase Hall 108 and greet her – she’d love to meet you! - Club Renewal
It’s hard to believe, but Club Renewal is almost upon us! The Club Renewal application opens Friday, January 31. All clubs are required to submit a Club Renewal, even if they are not requesting funding, to be considered active for the 2020-21 academic year. Find out more details here. - Mid-Year Report Outcome
If your club requested funding via the Mid-Year Report, know that BCB and Campus Life will be considering those requests this week, and you should receive the decision on them early the week of 1/19.
We think that’s about it! Please know that Kim, Nick, Jen, and Marisa are all here to help you however we can – if you ever run into issues or just want to chat with someone about how things are going for your club, don’t hesitate to reach out. See you around campus!
