About
Sam Howes (he/him) is the college archivist in the Edmund S. Muskie Archives and Special Collections. He works with college departments and student groups to document the history of the college and establish record retention schedules for college records. Sam holds a BA in History from Acadia University and an MA in Archive Administration from Aberystwyth University. He also holds a Genealogical Research Certificate from Boston University and a Graduate Certificate in Digital Curation from the University of Maine. Sam’s history education included medieval studies and American labor history. He is also a genealogist with expertise in family and local history research. His research interests include the history of Bates College, the local history of Lewiston, and cemeteries. Sam also provides information about the archives and archives in general, as well as guidance for caring for personal archives.
