About

Eric graduated from the Residential College at the University of Michigan with a degree in Philosophy. In Eric’s prior work at Bates, he served as Coordinator for the Academic Resource Commons and Writing at Bates (Fall 2016 through Spring 2021) and Assistant Director of the Academic Resource Commons (Fall 2021 through Spring 2023). His primary goals in all of his work at Bates are focused on building collaborative systems and campus partnerships which support Bates students in their academic pursuits, and support SASC’s Peer Educators in their development as community leaders. Eric serves as a point of support for students who are seeking to improve their study skills, learning strategies and executive function, both by meeting with students individually, and also by matching them with learning strategies tutors for additional support. Eric also facilitates study skills, learning strategies and executive function workshops for classes, teams and clubs. A Selection of Relevant Prior Work
  • Workshop developed: Dyer, E. “Getting the Most out of Your Study Time.” 2024. Bates College (LINK). After this workshop, students will be able to develop a plan for a study session, determine where to best put their focus for efficient learning in limited time, and choose among learning strategies to best fit the material.
  • Workshop developed: Dyer, E., Huber, D., Edwards, S. “An Academic Plan – Why You Need One, How to Make One.” 2023. Bates College. After this workshop, students will have a realistic understanding of the degree of agency and responsibility they have for their time as college students. They will have tools to track their commitments and an understanding of the need to assess the costs and benefits of taking on a particular commitment.
  • Conference Presentation: Coulombe, G., Alford, A., Dyer, E., “Moving Towards a More Inclusive Center.” 2024. New England Peer Tutor Association Annual Conference, Assumption University. Co-delivered presentation outlining SASC professional staff efforts to identify growing edges and create solutions improving inclusivity throughout SASC programming.
