Darren Gallant (he/him) is the Associate Dean and Director of the Center for Global Education (CGE) at Bates College. He joined Bates in 2019. At Bates, Darren leads the CGE in its efforts as the global hub for students, faculty, and staff. His primary responsibilities at Bates include off-campus study/education abroad and faculty-led off-campus courses and programs.

Darren’s expertise is focused on global learning and student engagement with the world beyond campus. This interest stems from his own study abroad experience in Denmark, master’s level research in the Middle East, and personal and professional travel to over 30 countries. Professionally he has expertise in risk management, crisis response, academic travel planning, and supporting student identity development.

Collaborations with Darren focus on developing faculty-led programs for Short Term or Fall Semester Abroad. He can also be helpful for curriculum alignment for departments/programs as they plan for how education abroad fits into their academic goals. If you have global questions, Darren can be a first point of contact.
