DeStress Fest-Dairy Joy and Grade in Community
Walk to Dairy Joy with CITL for ice cream on us! Then grade in community! Meet outside Dana Hall (Alumni Walk side). Grade in Community will take place in the CITL lounge (Dana 216) from 12-4.
Lunch & Learn: Reflections on the 2024-2025 Academic Year
What has teaching and learning looked like on campus this year? Which trends has CITL noticed through our conversations, consultations, and workshops? April’s lunch & learn explores, problematizes, and addresses the Bates-specific patterns of challenge and success. CITL will also place these alongside national trends (spoiler: Bates isn’t as special as we might think it is: What we’ve seen and heard maps onto what we’ve read about in scholarship and heard about from external colleagues). Oh! And there is lunch!
Course (Re)Design Institute: Big Course Vision & Learning Objectives
What does your course do? At the end of your course, what do your students know, what can your students do, and how have your students changed their values or attitudes?
In this 3-hour workshop, we articulate the framing for your courses by answering these questions. We will also spend time writing strong, specific, attainable and measurable learning objectives.
Course (Re)Design Institute: Aligning Assignments and Assessments
How will you know if your students reach those learning objectives? Which assessments demonstrate this? And how might you craft equitable, accessible, and inclusive assessments?
In this 3-hour workshop, we discuss how to align your assignments and assessments to your learning objectives. We will also spend time ideating possible inclusive assignments and assessments.
Course (Re)Design Institute: Engagement and Participation
What do engagement and participation look like? How might we think creatively about both encouraging and measuring them? And how do we maintain equity in these procedures?
In this 3-hour workshop, we imagine different ways to foster engagement and participation in learning spaces, noting how these can galvanize learning.
Course (Re)Design Institute: Teaching at Bates
Who are Bates students? What do Bates classrooms look like? What are the expectations of a Bates course? How can you keep these in mind, but not assume or stereotype?
In this 3-hour workshop, we discuss patterns of Bates teaching and learning, as well as how to push against these trends and provide inclusive and accessible courses for all students.
