Credit Policies
All transferred courses may be used to fulfill requirements in the Chemistry major and minor and in the Biochemistry major. Only one non-Bates course may used to fulfill requirements in the Chemistry GEC.
AP Policy
A score of 4 or 5 may be awarded credit for up to two semesters of Introductory Chemistry, Chemistry 107 and/or Chem 108.
A score of 3 or below: No credit
International Bacalaureate Policy
“Susidiary Level Chemistry” with an examination grade of 6 or 7: one semester of Introductory Chemistry: Chem 107 or 108.
“Higher Level Chemistry” with an examination grade of 5: one semester of Introductory Chemistry: Chem 107 or 108.
“Higher Level Subjects” category with an examination grade of 6 or 7: up to two semesters of Introductory Chemistry: Chem 107 and/or 108.
A-Level Policy
Grade of A or B: up to two semesters of Introductory Chemistry: Chem 107 and/or 108.
Grade of C: one semester of Introductory Chemistry: Chem 107 or 108.
Grade lower than C: No credit

Transfer Credit Policy
Students may take chemistry courses at other institutions during the summer or during study abroad. It is highly recommended that students have courses approved before enrolling in the course to be transferred. Courses taken at a Community College must obtain prior approval of both the department chair and the Academic Standing Committee.
