Dear Members of the Bates Community,

We are very pleased to share with you the final version of our Sustainability Roadmap, which sets goals for the college including a shift from being carbon neutral, a goal Bates achieved one year ahead of schedule, in 2019, to being Climate Positive by 2030.

The Committee for Environmental Responsibility began work on this report shortly after leading Bates to carbon neutrality. Setting these new goals and outlining how we can realistically meet them represents a years-long group effort by the committee, which includes faculty, staff, and students. Implementing this plan will touch on and, I believe, enrich our lives here on the Bates campus, while furthering, quite literally, our mission to prepare leaders with “a commitment to responsible stewardship of the wider world.”
