Editorial Style for Events and Schedules
Achieving a consistent style for the presentation of Bates events in schedules and listings helps potential attendees focus on what really matters: the information.
The style for a Bates event listing has four elements that are exceptions to AP style:
- The time of event, with start and end times separated by an “en dash,” and “am” and “pm” aligned next to the hour.
Note: To create an en dash: (PC) hold the Control key and type the hyphen key on the top of the keyboard; (Mac) hold the Option key and hyphen key. - The name of event in bold.
- The event description (optional); does not have to be complete sentence.
- The location of event in italics. The building name is first followed by room name and/or number; use Bates Place Names for reference.
