Bates’ mission is to educate and develop the talents of our students. To this end, the college has a number of policies and procedures in place to ensure that students, faculty, and staff can engage with their work without unnecessary distractions.

On-campus reporting, photographing, and videotaping is allowed only with prior permission of the college. Unless expressly authorized, the news media is not permitted inside classrooms, dining halls, or dormitories. Reporters may use public sidewalks to photograph or film campus. Commercial filming is generally prohibited but may be allowed in certain circumstances.
