MARK JEFFERY (Sept 16-27)
Since 1993 Mark Jeffery has developed unconventional collaborations with visual artists, scholars, video artists, sound artists, new media and code artists, dancers, choreographers, curators, and writers. His works often involve public participation. He is curator of the bi annual IN>TIME performance series hosted by the Chicago Cultural Center as well as several other curatorial projects around Chicago.
Mark Jeffery was a former member of the internationally renowned Goat Island Performance Group from 1996 – 2009. He collaborated and performed in 5 of Goat Island’s works, touring and teaching extensively across North America and Europe. http://www.markjefferyartist.org/
KIMBERLY BARTISOK (Sept 30 – Oct 12 with her company performing Oct 12 in Schaeffer)
Bessie Award-winning performer Kimberly Bartosik’s work has been commissioned and presented by important venues such as BAM Next Wave Festival, LUMBERYARD, and New York Live Arts, She has been also awarded numerous competitive national grants and artists residencies to develop her work. Bartosik was a member of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company for 9 years and received a Bessie Award for Artistic Excellence in his work. She was a member of the Wally Cardona Quartet and also performed in the 2011 restaging of Robert Ashley’s 1967 opera, That Morning Thing. Bartosik received her BFA from North Carolina School of the Arts, and MA in 20th Century Art and Art Criticism from The Graduate Faculty of Political and Social Research of the New School University. She and has been a guest artist/faculty in numerous colleges and universities including Princeton University, The Juilliard School, Rutgers University, University of North Carolina School for the Arts, and SUNY/Purchase.
TANIA ISAAC (Oct 21-Nov 1)
Tania Isaac fuses choreography with personal documentary and social commentary and examines juxtapositions of cultural influences, resulting in dances that are elegant and dramatic, yet highly accessible. An electric and commanding performer, Isaac has been a member of David Dorfman Dance, Rennie Harris Puremovement, Urban Bushwomen and is a current collaborator with Emily Johnson/Catalyst. Her company has performed and taught internationally and throughout the US from contemporary process driven workshops and composition to modern dance and Caribbean-infused technique classes . Her publications explore the spectrum of contemporary dance ranging from essays/commentary on functional mechanics to comparative literary esthetics in performance. Her current work is an exploration of creative method : the “Open Notebook” – a way of turning a room into a laboratory of investigation and participation in multiple forms. http://www.taniaisaacdance.com/
