Values

In our curricula, in our structures that are decided through shared faculty governance (everything from admission policies, resources for the library, number of athletic teams)- we demonstrate our values.

If we hold the values in our mission statement to be true, how do we ensure that we are meeting these values? Are we? As individuals? As programs or departments? as divisions? How do we train ourselves to be advisors or mentors? Do we know if we are successful? Are faculty prepared to work with students that come from very different backgrounds than they have experienced? If we are missing a group of students through our interactions, how do we know? How do we make sure that faculty are given the opportunity and information that is needed to reflect on how we shape the students?

We do not train ourselves to evaluate ourselves or each other for teaching or advising.
