The committee finished its work in the 2022-23 academic year. For historical purposes, we include the charge below that was used when the committee was last in session.
The Charge:
Those doing work for the Mellon Curricular Transformation grant are charged with moving the humanities, humanistic social sciences, and humanistic interdisciplinary studies forward by supporting faculty in their work of racial equity, inclusive pedagogy, and curriculum review transformation. This work involves creating sustainable structures, opportunities, and collaborations in alignment with the grant outcomes and the objectives set forth as follows:
- Improving: 1) curricula offered by departments and programs, 2) pedagogical approaches to teaching, and 3) the faculty’s intellectual and material capacity to promote and support equity, inclusion, and educational justice writ large.
- Supporting faculty efforts toward access, equity, and inclusion for diverse student populations across departments and programs through curricular and pedagogical change.
- Facilitating and supporting the assessment of curricula and student outcomes at department, program, and individual faculty levels.
- Increasing consensus and engagement with curricular transformation through informed and deliberative curricular change.
- Programming, workshopping, and conferencing that results in building faculty capacity to identify and evaluate biases that influence teaching principles, student assessment, and foundational standpoints of a discipline. This will enhance the learning outcomes of all students, the removal of barriers particularly experienced by BIPOC students, and the advancement of our dedication to educational justice and accessibility in education.
- Working with faculty in redesigning an impactful number of courses and curricula.
- Planning, scheduling, promoting, recruiting, implementing, and assessing efforts of this committee and that of the curriculum review and transformation processes.
