Below please find a summary of recent announcements and upcoming events.

Megan McHenry in the Registrar’s Office shared the most recent edition of For the Record.  Included in the message were deadlines and information that might be of interest to you.

• Please submit all edits to the winter 2022 draft schedule by Wednesday, October 20, 2021.
• Friday, October 22 is the last day for students to drop a fall course or to change from pass/fail back to a letter grade.
• The winter 2022 schedule will go live for students no later than Friday, October 29, 2021.

Christine Schwartz, Associate Vice President for Dining, Conferences and Campus Events announced that effective Monday October 18, 2021 Bates community groups who book space in meeting rooms in Commons ( 201,221/222,226,225) may take advantage of the through the line catering option. This option allows meeting participants to make meal selections in Commons and return to their reserved space to eat– meals can not be consumed in the Commons dining room.  Please remember that masks must be worn at all times while in the building except when seated and eating.  Groups interested in the through the line option must book space in Commons through EMS and receive approval from Bobcat Catering at Bobcatcatering@groups.bates.edu.   Please be sure to include an account and numbering of individuals attending when you reach out to Bobcat Catering. Please don’t hesitate to reach out should you have any questions.

Kristen Cloutier of the Harward Center reminds us that Students interested in applying for a 2022 Davis Projects for Peace award should plan on attending an informational meeting on Monday, November 8th at 4pm via Zoom.  Those who RSVP that they will be in attendance will be sent a Zoom link on 10/29.  RSVP HERE  This is a wonderful opportunity to make a difference in the world.  Information and particulars on the project are available at the project website:  http://www.davisprojectsforpeace.org/   PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU PLAN TO ATTEND THE INFO SESSION ON 10/25, YOU DO NOT NEED TO ATTEND THIS ONE.

The MLK Committee writes with a friendly reminder that workshop proposals for this year’s MLK day are due on October 25th. 

Each January, Bates College observes Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. This is a day on campus that our work transforms from the regular classes to a series of events on this day. With the pandemic still around us, we are still planning for 2022 MLK Day observance-which may be via Zoom, in person, or via a hybrid format on January 17, 2022 .  

An important part of the day consists of morning and afternoon workshops. These workshops are typically organized by Bates faculty, staff, students, and administrators, but sometimes also local community members, and they offer a rich diversity of formats and ideas. The success of MLK Day depends heavily on our having a full program of workshops, and so the success of the day depends on people such as yourself. 

The theme for MLK Day 2022 is “Decolonization and Liberation.”  We look forward to reviewing your proposal for your workshop/film/performance etc. 

Please note: you may propose a workshop that is in-person, via Zoom, or in a hybrid format.
