Johnson Appointed to Maine Climate Council
Bev Johnson was appointed to the Coastal and Marine Working Group (CMWG) of the Maine Climate Council (MCC), in fall 2019. The MCC is tasked with finding strategies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions (45% of 1990 levels by 2030 and 80% of 1990 levels by 2050) and achieving carbon neutrality by 2045. The recommended strategies from all of the working groups were recently presented to the MCC. Johnson worked with others in the state, including Kristen Puryear (Bates GEO 1996), to help build Strategy #3 “Enhance Mitigation by Conserving and Restoring Coastal Habitats that Naturally Store Carbon (Blue Carbon Optimization)” highlighted most recently in the The Working Waterfront.
