show map Salvaxe, salvaxe [Wild, Wild] (2024), by Galician director Emilio Fonseca, is a nature antidocumentary: wolves look back at the camera, terrified, and humans howl. All of us creatures leave traces in this careful dance of tracked trackers.
This film goes deep into the forests of Galicia and Portugal, among the whispers, tracking images and absences of Iberian wolves. This film essay navigates a relational history, laden with submission and extermination, and confronts an audiovisual history made of images-simulacrum of the natural wild.
Followed by a discussion of the film, ecocinema and contemporary technologies of viewing “the nonhuman”: led by faculty co-sponsors from Art and Visual Studies, Hispanic Studies and Environmental Studies.
