Cleaning Practices and Hand Hygiene Products
Facility Services provides custodial services on campus in accordance with CDC recommendations. Cleaning protocols include the use of hospital-grade disinfectants and EPA-registered products, applied with the proper dwell time to reduce the risk of exposure to infectious diseases. Routine disinfection of high-touch surfaces reflects best practices and includes door handles, light switches, and handrails with an enhanced focus on common-use areas, such as restrooms, lounges, kitchens, hallways and conference rooms.
More than 250 additional hand sanitizer dispensers are installed around campus to ensure they are widely available in convenient locations. Please note that the white dispensers contain soap (near sinks) and the yellow dispensers contain hand sanitizer, located on walls and stands throughout campus. We want to emphasize that good hand hygiene is a cornerstone of public health. Using the hand sanitizers provided on campus or washing hands thoroughly, is better for both individual and community health.
Office and Lab Cleaning Practices
Faculty and Staff office spaces are cleaned once a week, including trash and recycling removal. Custodians will not move personal effects to clean areas like desktops, windowsills, bookshelves, etc. If occupants want these areas cleaned, they should work with their building custodian or AAA to schedule a deep cleaning, or request a work order for this service. Depending on the building, all offices may not be cleaned on the same day each week.
Regular weekly cleaning includes vacuuming, dusting, surface cleaning, disinfection, and waste removal. Communal cleaning kits are available for individual use in each building. Occupants should check with their custodian or AAA for their specific location. If additional waste removal is needed beyond once per week, an office occupant can place their waste receptacle in the hallway outside of their office for service. There are centralized waste stations located in common areas in each building as well.
Refrigerators and other appliances like microwaves located in designated break rooms will be cleaned on a regular basis, as needed.
Community Cleaning Kits
In addition to the cleaning regimen provided by our custodial staff, we provide cleaning kits and/or buckets of disinfecting wipes for “self help” community cleaning efforts. These cleaning kits are available by request and instructions for use are included with every kit.
