Marita was been the Assistant in Instruction for Geology from 1988 to 2019.  While an AI she was responsible for all laboratory sections of the 100-level geology courses; Earth Surface Processes and Plate Tectonics, both of which offer numerous, local field experiences in addition to the indoor lab exercises.

Marita has a BA in geology from Boston University and a Diplom (MSc) from the Freie Universität Berlin.  Since her return to the U.S. she has also been an instructor at Salem State College and spent many summers working on the Maine coast with faculty at the University of Maine at Orono.  Most recently she has participated in the Maine Geological Survey’s bedrock water-quality investigations, as well as in a Museum of the Rockies’ excavation of a Hadrosaur in northern Montana.  Marita retired from Bates in 2019 and she and Daphne are missed by students and faculty alike
