Carina Plettenbacher, 2024-25 Fulbright Teaching Assistant in German

Hi everyone! My name is Carina, and I am from a small town in the beautiful countryside of Austria called Weyer. I graduated from the Private University of Education in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in teacher training for lower secondary schools. During my studies, I did a semester abroad in York, England. Since my graduation, I have been teaching English as a foreign language, Geography and Economics and Digital Literacy at a small rural lower secondary school in Styria. I’m taking a year off from school life in Austria to pursue my dream of working as a TA at Bates, and will be back at my school after my adventure in the US.

In my spare time, I spend a lot of time with my friends and family, especially with my little nephews and niece. I would describe myself as a mixture of an active and cozy person, as I spend a lot of time outdoors going for walks and hikes, but also enjoy quiet afternoons/evenings watching movies or series. In addition to that, I enjoy reading, traveling and listening to music. Going to concerts and live shows is my big passion. So, if you have some recommendations for music, movies or concerts, please let me know.

As this year’s German Teaching Assistant at Bates, I look forward to supporting my students in strengthening their German language skills and sharing all things Austrian with them. I am also very excited to learn about American culture, both on and off campus.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me any time; I look forward to helping, getting to know and meeting you!
