Russell Street Complex Renovation

Thanks to your generous support, we have transformed Russell Street Field into a state-of-the-art facility that serves all our student-athletes, including those in varsity teams, clubs, and intramural sports.

We are deeply grateful for your contributions, which enable us to build a legacy that celebrates athleticism, teamwork, and achievement at Bates College. Your support truly makes a lasting impact on the future of Bobcat athletics, and for that, we thank you sincerely!

Synthetic Turf Field

Russell Street Field Transformation Completed in Summer 2024

Russell Street Field underwent an exciting transformation in summer 2024. Thanks to the College’s investment and our achievement of raising $2 million, we have installed a dual-fiber artificial turf. This new surface is similar in quality to the high-quality turf found at Garcelon Field.

This turf features a shock pad for added safety and utilizes SBR rubber tire beads to ensure durability and year-round usability. With plowable capabilities, the field remains accessible during harsh New England winters, providing consistent playing conditions for all athletes. Additionally, lighting enhanced scheduling flexibility for practices and games across various sports, including soccer, lacrosse, rugby, and ultimate frisbee.

Your contributions to this project addressed the urgent need for improved facilities and promoted a more inclusive and competitive environment for our entire athletic community. Future upgrades included new bleacher seating for fans to support the many Bobcats competing on Russell Street Field, along with a press box for game-day coverage.

“Our coaches are teachers who educate through sport, and our fields are their class-room. Students deserve an athletic facility that will allow them to practice and compete year-round, that will maximize opportunities for success and minimize missed class time. It will improve recruitment for varsity student- athletes, and positively impact the student experience as a whole by increasing available field time for club sports.”

Track & Field Scoreboard

We sincerely appreciate your support in honoring the legacy of Coach Al Fereshetian through the installation of a new scoreboard. This upgrade significantly enhances the experience for our track and field athletes during competitions.

Thanks to your generosity, we reached our fundraising goal of $150,000, with every contribution matched dollar-for-dollar by former track and field co-captain Jeff Snyder ’00. This support effectively doubled the impact of your kindness. The new scoreboard, featuring digital graphics to display event times, reflects our commitment to modernizing our facilities and providing our student-athletes with the necessary tools to excel. Thank you for being a vital part of this journey!
