The Dunn Guest House

History

PicofDunnHouse

Standing next to historic Libbey Forum and christened in honor of Robert Dunn ’50, L.H.D. ’99 and Gladys Bovino Dunn ’51, the 19th-century farmhouse has become the first ever Bates College guest house. The three-floor house offers five guest rooms for special visitors, including honorary degree recipients, acclaimed speakers or performers, and other friends of the College. A three-room common space dominates the first floor, while the second floor features three bedrooms. The third floor features a suite of rooms. A handicapped-accessible room adjoins the main building on the first floor.

The Purpose of the Dunn House

The Dunn House was dedicated in 2001 and is the gift of alumni Robert and Gladys Dunn ’50/’51. Its purpose is to provide a warm, inviting and comfortable place for overnight visitors to the College including alumni, speakers, potential employees and others on College business. While the primary purpose of the house is a guest residence, the kitchen/dining area can also be reserved for small meetings or events that are related to the life of the college.
