John R. Cole Prize for Outstanding Achievement in History
The John R. Cole Prize for Outstanding Achievement in History was established in honor of long-time Professor of History, John Cole. It provides awards to support student work, such as travel to archives or conferences or acquisition of research materials.
The John R. Cole Prize for Outstanding Achievement in History is open to all Bates History majors and minors. Current juniors are encouraged to apply for the May deadline if they wish to do research during the summer prior to their senior year.
Awards will be made three times a year, and application deadlines of October 1, February 1, and May 15.
Students who wish to apply should be prepared to provide the following information when the application form opens:
- Primary Location of Your Research
- (If Applicable) Secondary Location of Your Research
- Date range of your travel
- Date Range of your Travel (Return Date)
- Budget: Includeslist each item in your proposed budget and the estimated total cost.
- Budget Detail: Please provide details about how the funds you have proposed above will be used. For instance, if you have requested funds to travel from London, England to Cambridge, please provide information about the reason for the travel and how this will help you complete your research project.
