Bates College provides employees income protection through the Life, Accidental Death & Dismemberment, and Long-term Disability Insurance Programs. More detailed information is available on the various insurance programs through the below links.

Our Life, Accidental Death & Dismemberment and Long-term Disability Insurance carrier has remained the Hartford for 2024. Remaining the same in 2024, your Basic Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) coverage will be the greater of $50,000 or 1x your salary rounded to the next higher $1,000. All current supplemental coverage and beneficiary designations remain the same.
Employer paid life insurance in excess of $50,000 is subject to tax under IRS guidelines. See the Imputed Income Explanation for details. Any additional taxable income will be calculated automatically beginning in January. Note, if your Basic Life Insurance is less than $50,000 there is not taxable income.
There have been no changes in rates for the Employee Voluntary Life and spouse /partner age brackets as listed below. There has also been no change in dependent child life rates and AD&D rates. If you or a covered spouse/partner changed age brackets you will see an increase in costs. The age brackets and rates are listed below.
