Near Seas, Far Seas

Multimedia installation – Bates Immersive Media Studio (Coram 110)

Wednesday Feb 26: 9am-4pm

Thursday Feb 27: 9am-12pm

Friday Feb 28: 9am-4pm

Using geometric patterns often found in Islamic art and architecture as inspiration, Dashti and Noori merge multiple videos of the North Atlantic Ocean from Massachusetts Bay in the United States with those of the Caspian Sea in Iran. This non-narrative multi-media work creates a visual and cross-cultural conversation, which questions how landscapes are built, cultivated, and maintained through a fantastical and poetic interweaving of sound and image.

Geometry in Motion: Intersecting Nature and Culture

Artist talk with Gohar Dashti and Hamed Noori

Bates Immersive Media Studio (Coram 110)

Thursday Feb 27: 4-5pm

Free and Open to the public

A conversation between Dashti and Noori where they discuss this artistic collaboration and explore how geometry is not static, but constantly in motion—whether in natural formations, architectural structures, or artistic compositions. They will discuss their integration of geometric principles with organic elements, bridging tradition and contemporary art. By examining movement within patterns and nature, and across cultures, they explore how geographies shape perception, memory, and storytelling in their practice.
