This team explored the following questions:

  1. How do we foster an intellectual culture that shapes and reflects the distinctive, changing needs of faculty, students, and staff and responds to the myriad ways in which their intellectual lives are interwoven?
  2. How do we create an intellectual community that takes full advantage of place—the distinctive place in which the college resides, the human scale of a residential college, the heterogeneous places that inform our scholarly pursuits, and the wider world to which we are responsible?
  3. How do we build a more diverse community and deepen engagement with the array of experiences and perspectives that shape the intellectual vitality of Bates?

Educating the Whole Person

This team explored the following questions:

  1. How can we foster a Bates experience that supports all our students and enables them to develop and thrive throughout their lives, recognizing that their needs, goals, and aspirations change over time?
  2. How can we create a Bates experience that intentionally engages the transformative power of our differences while fostering a shared set of understandings, values, and experiences?

Facilities, Infrastructure, and Technology

This team explored the following questions:

  1. How can we shape our physical environment in order to sustainably serve our mission in a changing educational landscape?
  2. How can facilities, infrastructure, and technology support our curricular and co-curricular goals?

Resources

This team explored the following questions:

  1. What is the financial model that will best position Bates to meet both our short and long term goals for financial sustainability?
  2. How can Bates best evaluate choices about resources in a systemic fashion that is in keeping with our core values?
