At Olin Concert Hall — and in the Bates Library
Whether you want to hear Frank Glazer play that Beethoven sonata one more time, or Leyla McCalla‘s recording with the Carolina Chocolate Drops, the library can help.
The Bates Library sound recordings collection has a little something for every musical taste:
Love vinyl? The audio/video room has thousands of albums — and the turntables to play them. We also have 10,000+ CDs (many of which are rare and out-of-print) and hundreds of thousands of tracks in our streaming databases.
All of the CDs and LPs are in the library catalog, so it’s easy to find what you’re looking for. Just do a ‘word’ search for a performer, a group, or the name of a song/composition.
Although many of our online recordings are not yet available through the catalog, our four biggest databases DRAM, Music & Performing Arts Online, Naxos Music Library, and Naxos Jazz allow users to search in ways the catalog doesn’t — by mood, performer, instrument, culture, country, etc.
For a taste of what’s available from recent or upcoming Olin artists try:
Frank Glazer’s historic recording of the Piano Works of Erik Satie
The Brazilian Guitar Quartet’s version of Bach suites
“There’s Nothing Quite Like Money” featuring the songs of Bertolt Brecht and Hans Eisler, including the Hollywood Songbook (to be featured at Olin on February 7 at 4:30 PM).
And in advance of visit of Brazil’s Assad Family, try Sergio Assad’s arrangements of the music of Antonio Carlos Jobim
Look around while you’re in any of these databases. There’s always something new and great to explore!
