Ladd for Visitors
Welcome to the Library!
Ladd Library is open to the public 8am-6pm during the academic year (break and summer hours vary). A Bates ID card is required to access the building after 6pm.
Access to our Collections
Walk-in, in-building use of our print and electronic collections are available for those doing research. Visitors may use one of our easy-access kiosks. While we do not provide general public internet access on our kiosks, the public can connect to the “Bates Open” wireless server with their personal devices for research purposes.
For access to College records, personal papers, including those of Edmund S. Muskie, and rare books, visit the Edmund S. Muskie Archives and Special Collections web site or their building.
Conference rooms and group study rooms in Ladd may be used by members of the local community. However, only Bates community members can reserve these spaces in advance. Bates students, faculty and staff have priority and visitors will get “bumped” for academic or library-related purposes (e.g. researcher using library resources, students needing to use the screen capture capabilities of the room, etc).
Check Out of Materials
All citizens of the Second Congressional District may borrow Government Documents. All other material is requestable via interlibrary loan or local residents may apply for a Courtesy Card. Applications are available at the Circulation Desk.
Copiers
We have both scanner and microform copiers available to the general public.
Tours
Outside groups wanting a tour of the building or a brief instruction session about the library should plan to come during our academic semester breaks (see the full schedule).
To experience Ladd virtually, see our Maps/Floor Plans.
