Access and Borrowing
Ladd Library is open to the public 8am- 6pm.
Evening hours during the academic year are only open to the Bates community via card access.
Items on open shelves are available for anyone to use in the library.
Materials may not be taken from the library without being checked out. All patrons must present the appropriate I.D. card for all library borrowing.
Borrowing privileges are granted to the following:
- Bates Students
- Bates Faculty and Staff, Emeriti and Retirees
- Bates Alumni
- Bates Affiliates
(spouses, domestic partners, children up to age 21 of faculty and staff) - Colby and Bowdoin
college faculty, staff, and students - Maine Reciprocal Borrowing Program – 2019 Pilot
allows patrons from participating libraries to visit other libraries in the program and check out books in person. - Courtesy Card Holders
Local Residents may apply for a Courtesy Card. - Government Documents Borrowers
All citizens of the Second Congressional District may borrow Government Documents.
The Librarian reserves the right to limit the number of items borrowed by a user at any one time.
As a security measure, the library staff reserves the right to inspect backpacks, bags, etc. if the exit alarm sounds.
