Fatima Diaz ’08 of the Bronx, N.Y., works with youngsters on the basics of reading at the Governor James B. Longley Elementary School in Lewiston,ME. Students in a Short Term unit taught by Associate Professor of English Lavina Shankar took part in a service-learning project at Longley. The course examined “classics” in literature written to educate and entertain children, including works by Hans Christian Andersen, Louisa May Scott and Dr. Seuss.
