Ewa and Hakan Nils Lonnqvist Andersson have moved to a larger house in French Guiana (61 Ave. Felix Eboue, E 97310 Kourou). Since October 1994 he has worked on the Ariane launch program, expecting to launch the next generation of rockets, the Ariane 5. Occasionally, he adds, “we also support U.S. Atlas and Delta launches with additional ground station covering. Regularly we enjoy receiving phone calls from Ian Horne. We usually discuss possible locations in the Caribbean for a meet-halfway reunion.” Last summer he had a mini-follow-up with Batesies, including classmate Jonas Nycander and Ichiro Takayama’78. “Anyone passing this part of the Amazonas is more than welcome to pop in for a cup of tea or a pina colada.”…Anthony Derosby has become a member of the Portland law firm of Pierce, Atwood, Scribner, Allen, Smith & Lancaster…. From August to February she was at the Vrije Universiteit in Brussels, Belgium. Sarah is now at Royal Dutch Shell in Amsterdam until this August. “Am trying to learn Dutch, but it’s slow going,” she says…. Ethan Whitakeris “running a small five-man research and development office in Brunswick. We come up with all kinds of silly ways to use computer technologies in insurance companies. Most of what we come up with is pretty worthless but people actually pay us anyway. Our kids, Leah and Bradley, seven and four, are living proof that even an irresponsible collegiate drunkard can grow up and produce some pretty cool kids. My wife, Linda, and I bought a boat last summer and the family spent the summer burning ridiculous amounts of gas as we motored up and down the coast of Maine.”

Having finished active service in the U.S. Marines in Alaska, Forrest Ward is a pilot for Business Express, a regional airline based in Boston. He lives in Poquoson, Virginia, with his wife Molly, a son, a dog, and a cat. Molly graduated from the University of Virginia and earned a J.D. degree from William and Mary. Forrest says in his spare time he goes fishing, works on his old truck, and writes anti-development letters to his local newspapers.

They will teach at Gould Academy summer school this year. They continue to love the West. Dave led students hut-to-hut skiing in the central Rockies in March 1995. He has fond memories of Paul Maciuika, with whom he went to high school in Connecticut, and expresses his sadness at Paul’s death, as do all classmates…. After eleven years John Rozen has made a dramatic career change from the “dog-eat-dog” world of the retail industry to teaching high school. He loves teaching biology and general science amongst the cranberry bogs in Carver, Massachusetts. “Though it is true that the pay is much less,” he says, “the rewards are so much greater.”… Erica Seifert Plunkett still works for Laura Ashley buying home furnishings for North America. Steve Sughrue and his fiancée….Michael and Sharon Curry Schecter ’88 have moved to Melbourne, Australia, which is “a very fun, very young city with lots to do.” When there is time they explore the countryside and have seen wild kangaroos, wallabees, and koalas…. Steve Sughrue is at Tabor Academy in Marion, Massachusetts…. Rob Spellman continues to work for information services at Bates. “Computing at Bates has changed a lot since we were students,” he says, “and we are doing a lot of new and exciting things with the latest computer technology.” Susan (Pollard) is a full-time mom “at home” with outside involvement in preschool, gymnastics, swim lessons, story time at the library, and play group. She is also a part-time tutor for high-school math students, which keeps her challenged, and she can set her own hours…. After three years on the Admissions Staff, Scott Steinberg became director of alumni relations in September 1994. He looks forward to seeing many classmates at alumni club meetings and on campus for the big “One-0” in June. He teaches news writing to “earn his keep.” His last story, a special report for thePicayune about a young boy killed in a drive-by shooting, was used as the basis for a segment on Bill Moyers’ PBS January series on juvenile violence. And in December he got his first by-line in Time magazine…. Meg Webb Wright enjoys time at home as mom to son Dave…. Living in West Hartford, Connecticut, Julia Wiellette and her partner, Sher, have just moved into a “gorgeous older apartment.” They hope it is the last move until they buy a house. Julia still enjoys private practice in her seven-lawyer suburban firm and recently represented the new purchasers of the Connecticut/Western Massachusetts gay and lesbian magazine, Metroline…. Shari Weitzen Wainshal says she has not missed her Bean boots since moving to Plantation, Florida, to be near family. “The winter is amazingly wonderful.”… Terri and Kenneth Woodard miss cross-country skiing and the beauty of Maine since moving to Washington, D.C., to teach in the metropolitan area. Ken chairs the history department at Connelly School of the Holy Child, an all-girl Catholic school. Terri teaches second grade at the Norwood School…. Tracy Zordan Nudo says life in Montreal is always interesting, between all the festivals and the political situation. Tracy worked for a McGill University lab on cancer research, took six months of intensive French “for a little international flavor,” and now is an at-home mom for Alexandra, with days fully as busy as in the lab.
