He spends one morning a week helping fifth-grade students in the reading program at a neighboring school. Last August, Howard was pleased to attend the opening night of The Golden Apple, in which daughter Ellie Quint played a feature role as Mrs. Juniper Calypso…. In spite of her own health problems, Doris David Brookes is a great help to other residents at the Pine Point (Maine) Nursing Care Center. The son of one of the patients said, “I don’t know what my mother would do without her.”… “The year at Bates is still fondly remembered,” says Dr. Langdon Hooper, who writes that he has enjoyed the practice of medicine for more than fifty years and continues on the courtesy staff at one hospital. They still have their home in Osterville on Cape Cod, spending winters at their Florida condo…. Our successful class agent Miriam McMichael Robinson not only reported 83.8-percent participation of the Class in last year’s Annual Fund, she also enjoyed phone conversations with several classmates: Eunice McCue Ireland, Helen Goodwin Brown, Grace Young, and Cyndi, daughter of Lucy Lundell Billings…. Alton and Phyllis Misener Scott planned to be in Florida through the winter. They enjoyed the visit with Libby Goldman last July….Helen Sanders Norrby and Winifred Sanders lead active and happy lives in their Pennsylvania retirement home. Winnie has been especially busy with responsibilites there that she has accepted…. Hugh and Erma Tetley Morton have enjoyed programs at Bates, especially the Christmas Concert — in spite of a blinding snowstorm when Carl and Mary Morton Cowan ’61 were the chauffeurs. In February the concert sponsored by Florence Pennell Gremley ’25 featured brilliant young pianist Duncan Cumming ’93. |
