Bruce (Kirk) Jackson wrote us “from a tent lying in a field in Peru with Mt. Ausangate rising in the foreground…I’m…hiking the Inca Trail and other beautiful hikes in the Andes Mountains.” Kirk resigned from his job last February to go on a worldwide trip, needing a break from the very consuming financial market, and to “re-energize myself to see what the world looks like besides what appears through a video screen.” To date he had been through Chile and Patagonia, played in a few ice hockey tournaments (Norway, Iceland, Mexico City), and traveled for two months in Nepal. After Peru, he planned to bike through Ireland, then go to Tanzania, Kenya, and Zimbabwe in Africa. Eventually he intends to go through Australia and New Zealand. For the past three years, Kirk worked as a portfolio manager for fixed-income portfolios at Metropolitan Investment Management Company in New York City. Previously, for nearly eleven years, he had worked for Metropolitan Life.

Cmdr. in the U.S. Coast Guard. She lost touch with classmates due to six moves, four dogs, four kids, three ships, and two invasions….A busy working mom of the nineties, Gayle Boyd Sommer tries to keep pace with her son and all of the responsibilities that go along with living on the family farm….Bob Carr continues as director of AIDS services at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and finds parenthood a real challenge….Lisa Coppola earned her M.Ed. degree from the University of Southern Maine last May….The law office of Antonucci and DiGiammarino is doing well, reports Larry DiGiammarino. He also notes that the Boston Management Team works with about a dozen professional hockey players….Jerry Donahoeis now an environmental policy specialist at the Department of Housing and Urban Development in Washington, D.C….Katie Eastman-Daniel and husband Jim have moved to Dayton, Maine, where she has a private psychotherapy practice and is in a doctoral program in clinical psychology….As a member of the board of the National Association of Legal Assistants, Felicia Garant travels throughout the country. Her new apartment is within walking distance of her office in downtown Portland….Jon Guildearned an M.B.A. degree in 1994….In New Hampshire, Scott Hyde teaches art at Westmoreland School, and coordinates student art teachers from nearby Franklin Pierce College. In September one of his drawings was in a Bard Alumni Show at the New York Art Club. Currently in London for a year, where his wife, Melissa Stearns ’81, works at Richmond College, Scott is doing a lot of drawing, taking Allegra to school and Connor to the parks….Bates welcomes Tim Kaneto the Development Office staff as major gifts officer….Ruth Lemont Cook is back at work at Amerwest Development Company. After three months at home with their new twins, she wishes for eight hours of uninterrupted sleep!…Mom and “domestic engineer” Kathleen O’Neil Kane is a literacy volunteer and chairman of a book group in the Fairfield (Connecticut) Welcome Club….After two years in Colorado,Jon Skillings has moved back to Boston to be assistant news editor at the IDG News Service….Class Secretary Melissa Weisstuch has been promoted to director of public relations at White Plains Hospital….Recently Steve ’79 and Judy Zipay Macdonald moved to Sarasota, Florida, where Steve’s career is advancing in the health-care field. Judy plans to work in the travel/airline industry again when both children are in school.

An at-home mom, Pamela Livingston Verfaille and her husband have moved to Morehead City, North Carolina, where Daryl is a Lt. in the U.S. Coast Guard. During last year, Pamela was one of ten board members of the Greater Nashua (New Hampshire) Mothers’ Club. She served as both membership and playground coordinator of the clubs, and was a member of the local Inter-Agency Council….At Bacon Academy in Colchester, New Hampshire, Julie Wilkinson teaches three Spanish II classes and two French I classes. She had taught Spanish and French in Longmeadow (Massachusetts) High School since 1986. Julie has traveled extensively in Europe, Mexico, and Venezuela to increase her exposure to foreign language and culture. She has taken students to Spain, Mexico, and France. When not in the classroom, she probably is rollerblading, hiking, cooking, or doing crafts.

Craig Davies earned his M.B.A. degree from Indiana University. He and Betsy (Ervin) have moved to Sacramento, California, where Craig has embarked on a new career….Jon Gaudio also headed out West with his family to Denver, where he is doing a residency in internal medicine and taking in as many Rockies games as possible….After her clerkship ended in September 1994,Midori Gellert traveled throughout the United States, and went to Mexico and Costa Rica with her sister. After that it was back to Alaska and the world of law….Joe and Lisa Peace Tito are doing surgery residency in Cooperstown, New York. Their varied vacations have included scuba diving in the Cayman and Virgin islands; river rafting down the Zambesi River in Zimbabwe; wine tasting in Napa Valley; and partying in New Orleans. Did their Newfoundland puppy go along?…From Laurie Pinchbeck Whitsel, still working on her Ph.D. degree in nutrition science and applied physiology, we hear that in June she was the first woman to be elected to the executive committee of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. “Breaking down barriers!” she says. She and Brad, also a Ph.D. degree candidate, enjoyed the beautiful fall in Canastota, New York. Laurie keeps in touch with several Batesies including Samantha Holbrook, Lynn Grondin Hannum, Sue Stevens BlackshearNadia White,Marie VanHeuven ’99, and Amy Freeman ’89….Jake Rosehas moved to London, and probably has traded his California beach blanket for a stool at the corner pub (Jamie’s words)….Lisa Riley Bull works for Andersen Consulting in Healthcare out of the Boston office. Presently located in Connecticut, she heads to Boston on weekends where Artie’88 attends Boston University as an M.B.A. degree student. In her free time “Bunny” has been working hard at her golf game….Cocky Schmitz is back in New York after a great visit to London except for a nasty fall through a skylight. She says, “Watch where you step!”
