Class Secretary: Grace Hussey Johnson, 37 Highland Ave., South Berwick, ME 03908-1212We offer our sincere sympathy to classmate Ruth Chesley Bonney on the death of her husband, Linwood, on July 20….After Sally and “Vic” Bowen had spent so many summer vacations at their cottage on the Maine seashore, it was really news when they decided to stay home in Laconia, New Hampshire, for last summer. They enjoy being with their many friends, and Vic still entertains by playing the piano. They were pleased to report that son Jeffrey has become coordinator of educational research for the New York Department of Education….Ruth Canham Diehl reports that she has a flower garden each summer. She thinks that exercise and fresh air keep her well. Happily, her son lives nearby and offers transportation when she needs it….Ruth Harrington Dwelley had good news to report — another great-grandchild, the twelfth, whose middle name is Ruth; she is the granddaughter of Marjorie Dwelley Reid ’50. “Himie” still enjoys her birding trips and her home offers the birds well-filled feeders….We are sad to report the death of Dorothy Jordan Simpson in June and express sympathy to her son, Charles….Frederic H. Young has received letters of commendation from California’s Governor Wilson, Assemblywoman Marilyn Brown, and Congressman Christopher Cox. They praised Fred’s contributions to higher education in Southern California during the past twenty years. Fred retired from active teaching in 1990 at age eighty-five. He was given another party by friends and former students in philosophy and comparative religion classes. |
