The following member of the College community recently represented Bates at a college inauguration:

Patricia S. McKay, M.D., P’96 at the inauguration of Audrey Forbes Manley as president of Spelman College

New Endowments

The following donors have generously established new endowed funds at Bates to meet the specific needs of the College.

• Mitchell Stashkow ’37 Scholarship Fund Given by bequest of Mitchell Stashkow ’37 to provide annual financial aid to a deserving student.
• Alvin E. David Endowed Fund Given by bequest of Alvin E. David P’60 for an annual musical performance on campus.
• William C. and Harriet Belt Nutting ’41 Scholarship Fund Given by William C. Nutting in memory of his wife, Harriet Belt Nutting ’41, for scholarship assistance for needy students.
• Lindell Family Fund Given by Lillian V. and C. Eric Lindell ’40 for scholarship assistance for deserving students pursuing a liberal arts curriculum.
• Helen A. Papaioanou Fund Given by Trustee Helen A. Papaioanou, M.D. ’49, D.Sc. ’97, a member of the Board of Fellows, in honor of her parents John X. and Assunta S. Raverta Papaioanou, for support of Bates students’ experiences in community service as an integral part of their formal educational development through service-learning projects.
• Norman E. Bowie ’64 Scholarship Fund Given by Norman E. Bowie ’64 in honor of his 30th Reunion, for scholarship assistance for students with extreme financial need.
• Bates College Endowed Fund for Support of Debate Given by alumni and friends, with income to be used to offset travel expenses of student debaters, with preference for international tours.
• Paul N. Carpenter ’33 Scholarship Fund Given by Paul N. Carpenter ’33 to provide scholarship assistance for students from the state of Maine, with preference for students from Aroostook County.
• Kechejian Family Scholarship Fund Given by Nishan J. Kechejian, M.D. ’55, Sarkis J. Kechejian, M.D. ’59, Gregory J. Kechejian, M.D. ’80, and John A. Kechejian ’86 for scholarship assistance for needy students.
• Ruth Fehlau Prince ’51 Scholarship Fund Given by Robert E. Prince in memory of his wife, Ruth Fehlau Prince ’51, with income to provide financial aid for needy Maine students with a concentration of course work in chemistry.
