She lives with Jenny Clark ’98 and Matthew Velluto…. In Chicago, Andrew Adams performs with a small resident circus company called The Midnight Circus. They have traveled to Venice, Italy, twice to street perform during Carnevale and there are plans to perform in the reconstructed Globe Theater in London for a month during fall 2003. In 2001, he and his girlfriend, Erika, traveled to London to train at The Circus Space for two months. In 2002, they traveled with The Caravan Stage Barge on a three-month Gulf of Mexico tour. The performances are on the deck of the 90-foot tall boat while the audienceon shore watches the show. Last year they were invited to audition for Cirque du Soleil but they did not get in…. Peter Beeson is in a Ph.D. program for civil engineering/geology at Penn State…. Ariane Beldi says, “I have gone through two master’s degrees: one completed at the Federal Institute of Technology of Lausanne (Switzerland) in the field of society, technology, and science, with a thesis on the use of the Web by pressure groups such as ATTAC, an international movement for democratic control of financial markets and their institutions, or the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions; and the other master’s at the Univ. of Geneva in media and communication, for which I am writing a thesis on the mediatization of political debate in a direct democracy (the political system of Switzerland), with a study of the latest debate on the right to abortion in Switzerland.” She works as an office and publishing assistant within an NGO called CIMERA (Civic development, MEdia support, Research and Analysis), whose aim is to promote professional journalism and free media with good-quality news on subjects of importance for the people in the Balkans, the Caucasus and Central Asia. “I might even write my Ph.D.,” she adds…. Damon Bowe is conducting breast cancer research towards his Ph.D. in pharmacology and toxicology at the Univ. of Alabama-Birmingham. His research involves elucidation of novel gene targets for therapeutic intervention in breast cancer. Specifically, he studies major cell cycle regulatory elements in mammary gland development and cancer…. Andy Brownlee went straight to Tufts Graduate School after Bates and received his master’s in physics. He works for a small research and development company that specializes in electro-optics…. Tamara Bucknell-Pogue worked on the successful Baldacci gubernatorial campaign in Augusta, Maine. She and Adam Thompson ’00 are roommates in Portland, Maine. She has competed in three triathlons across the country…. Jennifer Coleman graduated from George Mason in May 2002 with a master’s in conflict analysis and resolution. She lives in Boston with one of her old Bates roommates, Elizabeth Sandman, and is the ambulatory care center team coordinator at Boston Medical Center…. Cameron Donaldson is a second-year student at Tufts Medical School. He continues some of the extracurricular interests he pursued at Bates: he edits the online student newspaper, The Connective Issue, volunteers at Sharewood Free Health Care, and started a hockey club…. A’Llyn Ettien is an administrative assistant for the UU Assn. in Boston. She and husband Nathan Meharg ’97 just got back from a short trip to Finland, and they advise everyone to visit Helsinki, because they had a blast. Adventure in her life otherwise consists mostly of Dungeons and Dragons games and genial socializing with (mostly Batesie) friends in the area…. Rebecca Gasior has started graduate work in the sociology department at Brown. She has her sights set on a Ph.D., studying the politics of environmental illnesses, such as cancers (specifically breast cancer) and asthma. She lives in Providence…. For the past three years, Amy Keith has been working for the International Rescue Committee, a global refugee relief organization in Geneva, Switzerland, working on a joint project between IRC and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees…. While studying at Oxford during sophomore year, Brian Kend decided to complete his degree there. He played tennis at Oxford and was elected captain of the men’s varsity team in his final year. He now works at Metropolitan Talent Agency in Los Angeles as a literary agent representing writers and directors working in motion pictures and television…. Amy McInnis planned to move to Yangon, Myanmar (Burma), in early October 2002. She works in HIV/AIDS and malaria prevention with Population Services International. She has been working in the East and Southern Africa division of the organization for the past year and a half…. Elizabeth Moore is a case manager for people with HIV, substance use, and mental health problems in Portland, Maine. Last summer she became engaged to Wendy Blackwell and will be having a commitment ceremony next summer…. John Nesbitt is in his second year of teaching English at Berlin (N.H.) High School. He says, “Any old Bates friends are welcome to come visit and ski at Sunday River, which is just down the road.”… Katie Nowell is finishing her master’s in education at Lesley in Cambridge, Mass…. Christopher Orpilla enjoys life in the North End of Boston, working as a private banking analyst for the JPMorgan Private Bank…. Kate Osborn Munno received her master’s in geology from Queens College (CUNY) in 2001, and was married about 10 days later. She and husband David Munno (Bowdoin ’99) lived in Calgary, Alberta, while Dave finished his Ph.D. in neuroscience. She worked as a hydrogeologist for an environmental consulting company. They planned to move to Washington, D.C., so Dave could begin a postdoc position at the National Institutes of Health, and she will be doing something environment-related….
