Class Secretary: Marilyn Miller Gildea, 2418 Thaddeus Dr., Mountain View CA 94043, marilyn@gildea.com

Class President: William MacKinnon Jr., 10 Midstream Dr., South Yarmouth MA 02664, billmar9@juno.com

Selections from the recent Class Letter: Kay Dill Taylor says life on Peaks Island, 20 minutes by boat to downtown Portland, “may seem romantic (it can be), boring (never), challenging (sometimes), limiting (not at all), varied (definitely), lonely (hah!), cold in winter (less than you’d think), peaceful (not in summer), and especially lovely to look at (always).”… Charles Dings and Laurie enjoy retirement, children and grandchildren, travel, and work on many local committees and boards…. Byron Haines still teaches one class per term in philosophy at Portland (Ore.) State Univ. He also is a proud new grandfather…. Lou Hargan works at the Greater York (Maine) Region Chamber of Commerce and has been elected to the board of directors of the York Land Trust. He also is involved in fund-raising for the York Public Library and on the advisory board for York Adult and Community Education…. Cynthia Horton Cooke and Ron have been hiking all around the world: New Zealand, England, the High Sierras, and Australia. She also hikes several times a week with a hiking club. In the winter, they snowshoe and cross-country ski…. When they’re in Camden, Maine, Bill and Colleen Jenkins Huckabee take it easy, walking everywhere and reading. When they’re in Ohio, they’re running all the time. They are involved with the hospital, the Arts Castle, their Russian sister city, Support for Talented Students, the Columbus Opera, Otterbein College Theater, Great Books, Gourmet Club, Bates fund-raising, and others they “can’t even remember.”… Demas “Dick” Jasper has converted his restaurant totally into a health store (by simply expanding the health store into the restaurant space)…. Since retiring seven years ago, Tom King says he has been “left free to frolic.” He continues to direct his book group, which has met uninterruptedly for 23 years. He says the secret is “to conduct it the way Professor Berkelmann conducted his classes: dictatorially, with no squabbling over what gets assigned.”… John “Toni” Lovejoy is working to preserve about 300 acres of a mountain, the Sunset Rock Ridge…. Bill MacKinnon stood on top of the 2002 Olympics ski jumps, toboggan run, and luge runs on a visit last summer, and decided not to try them out…. Marilyn Miller Gildea still proofreads and edits for the Stanford Business School and has just become editor of her neighborhood newsletter…. On an Audubon trip to Alaska, Barbara Stetson Munkres saw “thousands of salmon leaping simultaneously out of the waters of a narrow passage just at sunset.”… Muriel Wolloff Brooks was pleased to have her granddaughter in her Algebra I class this past year.
