Graydon Carter (Canadian, b. 1949) and Fran Lebowitz (American, b.1950)
Carter is known as the editor of Vanity Fair from 1992-2017. With a long career in journalism, he co-founded The Canadian Review in 1973 and by 1977 it was the third-largest circulating magazine in Canada. Afterwards Carter was a writer and editor for Time, Life, and the New York Observer, as well as co-founded Spy. He was known for creating high profile celebrity stories as a part of Vanity Fair’s brand.
Carter produced an HBO Documentary about writer Fran Lebowitz directed by Martin Scorsese in 2010. Carter and Lebowitz are colleagues; she has been employed as a contributing editor and occasional columnist for Vanity Fair since 1997. Lebowitz is known for her wit and observational humor, as well as her lifelong dedication to New York City, refusal to use technology, and collection of many books.
