Mimi Weddell (American, 1915-2009)
Known for her role on Sex and the City and her prestigious collection of over 150 hats, Marion Rogers “Mimi” Weddell began her career as an actress in earnest at the age of 65, in part to help pay off the bills left behind by her deceased husband. Her unique career made her an icon in Manhattan, eventually resulting in the 2008 documentary Hats Off focused on her exuberant lifestyle and her obsession with collecting hats, something that began when she was 16. Her portrait in this show, taken by artist Joyce Tenneson when Weddell was 85, shows Weddell without her famous head garb, exposing the inner beauty that can be found at any age.
