Jazmin DeRice, mezzo soprano, is a Maine-based musician and teacher.

Jazmin has a holistic approach to teaching the vocal instrument, tailored to fit any students goals: building repertoire, audition preparation, public speaking, microphone technique, strengthening tonality, learning how to read music or even just uplifting one’s confidence in using their voice! She uses some teachings of the Alexander Technique and Feldenkrais Method, lots of movement and dance, detailed visuals of anatomy, discussions on the science of sound, meditation, deep breathing exercises, monologues, playful phonation and visualization to connect the mind, body and breath for vocal grace and longevity. Her hope is to help students recognize the beauty in their individual voices, find joy through song, and how to maintain the health of such a uniquely “you” instrument.

She has studied with the late and great Ellen Chickering, the magnificent Margaret Yauger Smith and her late husband Malcom Smith, and Bonnie Hamilton of CUNY Purchase and Mannes School of Music. She holds a BM and MM in Vocal Performance from the University of Southern Maine, and Artist Diploma in Vocal Performance from Mannes School of Music. Currently, she can be spotted performing with various local chorales, chamber ensembles and maybe even with her funk band!
