Presented by The Bates Department of Music: Eli Kushner ’24, a student of Christina Chute (Bates Faculty), presents his senior recital in cello performance. The recital explores 20th-century Russian compositions, including sonatas for cello and piano by Rachmaninoff and Prokofiev (featuring Chiharu Naruse, Bates Faculty), as well as a Shostakovich String Quartet, performed with local professionals: Dean Stein (Bates Faculty), Tracey Jasas-Hardel, and Carol Briselli. The recital also includes two works for solo cello. The program is designed to show the relationship between tension and resolution in music; juxtaposing pieces composed during times of great anxiety with those that inspire peace.
