Bates College Concert Band to perform
The Bates College Concert Band, directed by Mark Manduca, will perform at Bates College at 8 p.m. Dec. 2 in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall, 75 Russell St. The program features music by Malcolm Arnold, J.S. Bach, Gustav Holst, W. Francis MacBeth, Jamie Texidor, Ralph Vaughn-Williams and John Wasson. The public is invited to attend free of charge.
Manduca, a member of the applied music faculty at Bates, also teaches at the University of Southern Maine and at Manduca Music Studios. He performs with the Portland Symphony Orchestra, Portland Brass Quintet, Maine Bones, Maine Music Society and the Portland Opera Repertory Theater. He also conducts the Southern Maine Trombone Choir and the Bates College Jazz Ensemble.
Composed of Bates students and faculty members, area residents and some local high school students, the Bates College Concert Band is open to musicians interested in working on wind pieces for band performance. The Bates College Concert Band rehearses every Tuesday during the academic year at 7 p.m. in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall.
