1998 Homecoming Weekend Schedule
Bates College will celebrate Back to Bates homecoming Friday, Oct.16, through Sunday, Oct. 18, with many on-campus events for students, alumni and Bates employees. The following events are open to the public free of charge:
FRIDAY, Oct. 16
- Art Exhibit: Notations of Color: Oil Sketching in Maine, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. in the Bates College Museum of Art.
- Lecture: Whiteness is a Race, Professor of English Lewis Turlish delivers the week’s talk on Whiteness in American Literature, 4:15 p.m. in Room 113 of Carnegie Science.
- Maine Gubernatorial Debate: Maine’s five gubernatorial candidates tackle statewide issues in a live, televised debate. No admittance without free tickets from the Bates Office of Special Projects. 9 p.m. in Olin Arts Center Concert Hall.
- Play: Neil Simon’s Chapter Two, 8 p.m. in Gannett Theater.
SATURDAY, Oct. 17
- Art Exhibit: Notations of Color: Oil Sketching in Maine, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. in the Bates College Museum of Art.
- Field hockey: Bates vs. New England College, 1 p.m. at Russell Street Field.
- Men’s soccer: Bates vs. Springfield College, 1 p.m. at Leahey Field.
- Water polo: tournament play, 1 p.m. Tarbell Pool, Merrill Gymnasium.
- Football: Bates vs. Wesleyan, 1:30 p.m. at Garcelon Field.
- Play: Neil Simon’s Chapter Two, 2 p.m. in Gannett Theater.
- Concert: Bates’ a capella groups, the Deansmen and the Merimanders, at 7 p.m. in Olin Arts Center Concert Hall.
- Back to Bates Fireworks Show, 8:15 p.m. at Garcelon Field.
SUNDAY, Oct. 18
- Art Exhibit: Notations of Color: Oil Sketching in Maine, 1 – 5 p.m. in the Bates College Museum of Art.
- Play: Neil Simon’s Chapter Two, 2 p.m. in Gannett Theater.
