Kase’s oil paintings reveal strangers she met on the streets of Lewiston. “Painting a portrait is such an intimate experience, yet I know nothing about these people, who are my subjects,” says Kase, who lists Lucian Freud and Francis Bacon among her influences. “I am so drawn to painting strangers because of this first encounter that can never be replicated.”
